A beautiful and wonderfully textured Fluorite specimen from Fujian Province, China, featuring soft lavender-purple crystals beneath a delicate coating of sparkling druzy.

The Fluorite forms chunky intergrown crystals across the specimen, ranging from pale lilac and icy lavender to deeper smoky-purple areas hidden between the formations. Rather than having the completely glassy surfaces normally associated with Fluorite, many of the crystals are covered in an incredibly fine crystalline coating, creating the frosted, sugar-dusted appearance that gives this material its trade name of “Sugar Fluorite.”

Under direct light, thousands of tiny crystal faces catch and reflect the light, giving the specimen a soft shimmer while the purple Fluorite remains visible underneath. In some areas the original Fluorite faces can still be seen clearly, creating a beautiful contrast between smooth geometric crystal forms and the sparkling sugary texture growing across them.

The specimen is particularly sculptural, with layers of overlapping Fluorite surrounding small cavities and deeper purple crystal pockets. Pale icy-white druzy formations sit prominently across the surface, almost resembling little clusters of frost or snow against the lavender Fluorite.

Fujian Province is known amongst collectors for distinctive Fluorite specimens with fine druzy Quartz coatings, producing the unusual frosted texture often described in the mineral trade as “Sugar Fluorite.”
