A beautiful piece of fluorite from the famous Yao Gang Xian (YGX) Mine in Hunan, China — a classic locality especially loved by mineral collectors for its exceptional fluorite.
This piece has the dreamiest icy pale green colour, but what makes it special is thepurple colour zoning running through the crystals. Fine violet-purple bands trace the cubic growth, creating almost phantom-like outlines suspended inside the fluorite. Similar green YGX fluorites are documented with narrow purple zones beneath their surfaces, while other YGX finds show purple concentrated around crystal edges and corners.
The zoning records different stages of the crystal's growth, giving you those beautiful geometric layers that become much more visible when the piece is held up to the light.
A really lovely example from an iconic Chinese mineral locality, and such a special one for fluorite collectors.
